Report: Dead Manager 'Signed' Newark Eviction Notices

Blank forms had been signed in advance, company says.

Some tenants at Pavillion Apartments have recently received eviction notices that may have been signed and dated by a property manager who died months ago, News 12 reported.

The tenant association president said he received a notice when he balked at new lease agreements requiring tenants to pay extermination costs and buy liability insurance in order to remain at the rent-controlled homes.

An attorney for the company that manages the apartments told News 12 the deceased manager signed blank forms in advance and that the evictions were proper. But a housing law attorney contacted by News 12 disagreed, describing the incident as “outrageous.”
