Reward for Info on 2007 Murder Now at $15K

City employee, lifelong resident Khary Orr killed as he sat in friend's car

In conjunction with the Essex County Sheriff’s and Newark Police Crimestoppers programs, the family and friends of the late Khary Orr have increased the reward offer for his killer to up to $15,000, the sheriff's office announced.

Orr, 29, was struck by a bullet as he sat in the driver’s seat of a friend’s gold Mercedes-Benz on Eckert Street. Orr’s body was discovered at 4:30 am. on December 30, 2007. He was pronounced dead later that morning at 6 am.

Earlier, it is believed that Orr had gone to the Ideal Bar and Restaurant to watch the Giants play on television. Also that evening, Orr dropped a friend off at Newark Liberty International Airport.

Orr, a lifelong Newark resident, was a project coordinator for the city’s Division of Public Housing and a prominent figure in many community activities and events.
