Second Man Arrested in Fatal Grocery Store Robbery

Off-duty police officer shot and killed accomplice

Police Wednesday arrested a Newark man who allegedly took part in an armed robbery in which another suspect was killed, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office said.

Marcos Cordero, 42, is believed to have served as a lookout at the Twin City supermarket March 10 while Carlos Ribot, a 32-year-old Monmouth County man, was inside conducting the robbery. Ribot reportedly brandished a gun and was fatally shot by an off-duty Newark police officer working as a security guard at the store. The officer’s name has not been released.

Cordero was charged with conspiracy to commit robbery and a judge set bail at $200,000.
