Earlier this month a group of older women, including Newark residents, shared their stories about the changes they’ve witnessed for women professionally, socially, economically and within the family.
The women -- who range in age from their mid-sixties to their mid-90s -- spoke during a Women’s History Month event hosted by the FAMILYConnections Family Success Center of Orange.
The panel of five senior women spoke to an audience of 50 guests, sharing personal histories about pursuing education, building careers, breaking stereotypes and reinventing familial and cultural traditions in order to reach their goals. A Q and A session followed.
“My advice to young women is to figure out what you want in life,” said panel speaker Carrie Alson. “Figure that out, and do not deviate from it. No matter how hard the journey is, you’ll be going in the right direction.”
This event was co-hosted by FAMILYConnections’ Family Success Center of Orange, SeniorConnections and CaregiverConnections, with support from The City of Orange and Darrell Holcomb in the Division of Community Services.
