Seton Hall Prep to Name Athletic Fields in Honor of Teen Murdered by Alleged Point Pleasant Car Jacker
Brendan Tevlin, a Seton Hall Prep alum who was murdered last June, will forever be remembered on the fields where he loved to play lacrosse.

Seton Hall Prep has announced that a complex of athletic fields at the school will be renamed in honor Brendan Tevlin, the 19-year-old Livingston teen who was murdered last June.
Those who were touched by Brendan’s life have had no shortage of opportunities to honor his memory. Close friends organized a lacrosse tournament in his honor in August, and hundreds attended a memorial service for Tevlin three weeks ago at the University of Richmond, where Tevlin was a student.
Brendan Tevlin was murdered on June 25 while stopped at a traffic light in West Orange. His alleged killer, Ali Muhammad Brown, confessed to authorities that he considered it his mission to murder Brendan Tevlin as an act of retaliation for lives lost in Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria and Iran. Brown, a registered sex offender, has also been charged with carjacking and the murder of three other men.

Seton Hall Prep has been home to two generations of Tevlins. According to the Star Ledger, Brendan’s father’s twin brother, Patrick, was the first head lacrosse coach at Seton Hall Prep, and Brendan’s mother’s brother, Doug McNulty, graduated from the prestigious high school in 1986.
The two loving uncles visited their Alma mater last week to speak to school leaders about erecting a memorial in Brendan’s memory. The school has agreed to help raise funds to refurbish Seton Hall Prep athletic fields and rename the complex in memory of Brendan.

“We knew we wanted to do something for Seton Hall (Prep),” Michael Tevlin told NJ.com. “Brendan loved it there, he really loved the school and the whole experience... We wanted something there so people in future generations might come by and be curious about who Brendan was,” Michael says. “We didn’t want him forgotten.”
These athletic fields border the woods where Ali Muhammad Brown hid from law enforcement for weeks after he allegedly murdered Tevlin, NJ.com noted. The new fields are also right next to the apartment complex where Tevlin’s body was found.
“The field is in the center of everything,” Michael Tevlin told the Star Ledger. “So much bad happened right there, we want the field to be something good. To us, it’s a symbol that good is going to overcome evil. We took something terrible and made something good out of it.”
In the past three months, Brendan’s parents, Allison and Michael, have received support from people around the country who are shocked by the tragic death of the college freshman whose grade point average never dropped below 4.0. Not only was Brendan a good student, he was a stellar athlete with a fierce passion for lacrosse, and a strong faith in God.
“To have someone so good taken so young from you could really rock the foundation of your faith,” Allison Tevlin told the Star Ledger. “But if we let that happen, I know he would be so disappointed in us. Knowing how strong his faith was has given us some light, and kept us grounded.”
The donations have skyrocketed on the the fundraising site, “Good Vibes and Easy Living in Memory of Brendan Tevlin” which was set up in his memory. The website sold t-shirts, raising nearly $15,000 for a scholarship fund at Seton Hall Prep in Brendan’s name. A Facebook page memorializing Brendan now has more than 7,000 followers.
