Sheriff's Officers Recover Guns, Drugs

Action comes in response to complaints about crime

Narcotics detectives from the Essex County Sheriff’s Office recovered two guns and 30 grams of marijuana in the South Ward Monday night, action stemming from residents' complaints about the neighborhood’s high level of crime, Sheriff Armando Fontoura said in a statement.

Detectives saw several males loitering in front of 120 Seth Boyden Terrace around 7:30 pm and detained them while the detectives searched the area. Two fully loaded handguns -- including one that had been defaced -- were found in a barbecue grill on the south side of the building, while a plastic bag containing the marijuana was found beneath a jungle gym

Also, two Hillside men -- brothers Enrique, 20, and William Addison, 21 -- were arrested on outstanding warrants issued by the Newark Municipal Court and were being held at the Essex County Correctional Facility. The brothers were among the group allegedly loitering, the sheriff’s office said.

Earlier this year, Councilman Ras Baraka, who represents the crime-plagued ward, demanded more assistance from the sheriff’s office to augment city police patrols in the area.
