With the Christmas season in full swing, lots of people in Newark are entering Santa mode, including members of the New Jersey Devils hockey team. Jaromir Jagr, Travis Zajac and Stephen Gionta will be at University Hospital Monday handing presents in the pediatric and pediatric intensive-care wards.
Also Monday, representatives from 18 of the city’s 21 schools will meet to sign the Newark Charter School Compact, an agreement signed annually by the schools pledging the signatories to “the highest principles of transparency and public accountability,” “strive for educational excellence” and other goals. The event, which will be held at the Newark Museum, is being sponsored by the Newark Charter School Fund.
