A 15-year-old girl faces murder charges following a stabbing Friday night, Newark police and the Essex County Prosecutor's Office said in a statement today.
The victim, a 19-year-old Irvington man named Kawan C. Washington, was stabbed around 10 pm near 33 Pine Grove Terrace. He died at University Hospital a short time later.
The girl, whose name was not released because of her age, was arrested and charged with murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a wepaon for an unlawful purpose. She is in custody at the Essex County Youth House.
