The Week Ahead in Newark

Old-school hip-hop, film awards and free yoga this week

Feel like a free workout, yoga style? Practice your downward-facing dog and other positions during a free session Monday, July 30 at Riverfront Park, Raymond Boulevard and Brill Street, from 6 to 7 pm. For those looking for a more aerobic exercise session, there will also be a free Zumba workout at the park the following night. Click for more information.

On Wednesday, Aug. 1, the 38th annual Black Film Festival concludes with the bestowing of the Paul Robeson Awards, which will be given in a variety of categories. The awards ceremony will be held beginning at 5:30 pm at the Newark Museum, 49 Washington St.

And in more arts news, NJPAC’s free concert series “Sounds of the City” continues Thursday, Aug 2, when artists including Big Daddy Kane
and F. Stokes, with deejaying by Tony Touch, perform at the downtown venue. The concert, which begins at 5 pm, is free. Click here for more information.
