Newark Trio Accused of Stealing 100 Gallons of Cooking Oil in Modified Van

Van had a special container, hoses and a pump to extract the cooking oil from a Linden restaurant, police said.

Three city men are accused of a crime requiring a bit of specialized equipment to pull off: a container and pump that could handle a load of cooking oil.

Linden police allege that the men—Edward Hernandez, 21, Steven Cruz, 38 and Jonathan Nunez, 25—used a van equipped with a special container, hoses and a pump to extract about 100 gallons of the oil from the Dragonfly Restaurant Friday night, NJ.com reported. The oil was valued at about $220.

Nunez was charged and released, while Hernandez was being held on $25,000 bail and Cruz on bail of $50,000.
