Tip Leads to Carjacking Arrest

A city man was arrested Monday night after he was recognized from a Newark Police Department “Most Wanted” poster, Sgt. Ron Glover said

Malcolm Smith was taken into custody  at 286 South Orange Ave. after detectives identified him as the suspect in a carjacking that took place Nov. 26, 2012 on S. 6th Street. Smith was later charged with aggravated assault, carjacking and conspiracy.  

“The public continues to be a tremendous help by providing valuable tips that assist the police department in making apprehensions.  I applaud the citizen that called the anonymous tip line and provided the information that lead police to arrest one of Newark’s Most Wanted criminals,:” said Police Director Samuel DeMaio.
