Two Arrested in March Bodega Killing

Adult, youth charged in fatal armed robbery on Bergen Street

A 20-year-old man and a 14-year-old boy have been charged with murdering a city man during a bodega robbery in March, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office told Nj.com

Juwan Brice of Hillside and the boy were arrested March 27 but the arrests weren’t made public until this week, a spokeswoman, Katherine Carter, told Nj.com.

Police responded to the Super Variety Dollar Plus Store at 960 Bergen St. March 18 on a report of shots fired. There they found Nyshay Simmons, 21, shot dead and another man who had been seriously wounded. A third victim had left the store and gone to Newark Beth Israel Medical Center before police arrived.

The two have been charged with murder, robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, weapons offenses and assault.
