Two men reportedly armed with a camera, spray paint and bear repellant were arrested early Friday as they tried to “tag” a PATH train car housed at a South Street railyard, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey said in a statement.
Around 3:20 am, plainclothes PATH police officers Matthew Vogelman and Joe Korbul were patrolling the yard, located along the elevated track running parallel to McCarter Highway, when they heard someone cutting a fence and using a spray paint can. The officers then reportedly saw four men applying graffiti to a train car.
Two of the men, Keylan Monroe Levine, 23, of Cocoa Beach, Fla., and Robert M. Rubin, 27, of East Brunswick, were arrested, while the other two fled. Korbul, who the Port Authority said was hurt while scuffling with the suspects, was treated for cuts to the face at Jersey City Medical Center and released.
Both were charged with criminal mischief, burglary, resisting arrest, and weapons offenses for the bear repellant. Levine was also charged with resisting arrest by force.
