Universoul Circus Returns to Newark This Week
'Hip Hop Under the Big Top' has shows scheduled through May 5

Universoul Circus is returning for its 14th appearance in Newark Tuesday with a special appearance at First Avenue School, 214 First Ave., at 11 am. The circus is in town through May 5 under the big tent set up at 430 Broad St., across the street from Broad Street Station.
This year’s circus includes artists from the United States, Trinidad and Tobago, Colombia, France, Vietnam, South Africa, Russia, Brazil, and West Africa. Performers scheduled to appear include: the Trick Horse Act from Africa and Russia, Comedy Trapeze from Colombia, Head Balancing Act from Vietnam, elephants, Magic Tiger Illusions from South Africa, and the Party Rock Dancers from the United States. UniverSoul Circus is incorporated out of Atlanta by Founder and CEO Cedric Walker. The UniverSoul Circus Walker’s dream of “Hip Hop under the Big Top” turned into a reality in the parking lot of Atlanta Fulton County Stadium. By 1997 the circus tour had grown to 10 cities, 19 cities in 1999, 31 cities in 2000, toured South Africa 2001– its first international destination, and 32 cities in 2005. This year the circus will perform more than 500 shows in 43 markets split by two separately touring circuses.
Schedule of Special Circus Performances:
· April 30, 7:30 pm Acting Council President Anibal Ramos, Jr., will serve as ringmaster to open the performance.
· May 1, 4:30 pm Free performance, “After School Jam,” youth day event. Municipal Council Member-at-Large Mildred Crump will serve as ringmaster to open the performance.
· May 1, 7:30 pm - Discounted performance for city and county employees with identification. Municipal Council South Ward Member Ras Baraka will serve as ringmaster to open the performance.
· May 2, 7:30 pm Gospel Night. Municipal Council Member-at-Large Mildred Crump will serve as ringmaster to open the performance.
