Warrant Issued for Brookdale Ave. Murder

Suspected shooter considered 'armed and dangerous,' prosecutor's office says

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Newark Police Director Samuel DeMaio announced today that an arrest warrant has been issued for Robert Spann, 31, of Newark.

Spann is wanted by the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force and the Newark Police in connection with a fatal shooting  that occurred at 84 Brookdale Ave. last week.
 
Following a dispute, on June 26, Jamar Cato, 21, also of Newark, was shot just a short distance from where Spann lived. 
 
Spann, who uses the nickname “Nut,” is a 5 foot, 6 inch tall black male and weighs approximately 135 pounds. He is known to frequent the Vailsburg section.
 
Spann is considered armed and dangerous.
