NEWARK, NJ — Weather forecasters are predicting the first widespread snow of the winter season in New Jersey this week, with some ugliness potentially headed Newark's way.

Snow accumulation will only be a light dusting for most of the Garden State, forecasters say. But a combination of rain, wind and chilly temperatures could create dangerous conditions for drivers. Read More: Overnight Snow For NJ (Latest Accumulation Estimates)

The Newark area may see rain and/or snow on Wednesday night and Thursday morning, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). There is a wind advisory in effect from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Thursday.

Here is the local weather forecast for Newark this week, according to the NWS:

Wednesday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 39. South wind 7 to 9 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Wednesday Night: A chance of rain and snow before 10pm, then a chance of snow between 10pm and 11pm, then a chance of rain after 11pm. Cloudy, with a steady temperature around 38. Southwest wind 10 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Thursday: A chance of rain showers before 10am, then a slight chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a temperature rising to near 40 by 10am, then falling to around 36 during the remainder of the day. Breezy, with a west wind 15 to 23 mph, with gusts as high as 45 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Thursday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 29. Wind chill values between 20 and 25. Breezy, with a west wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 35. Northwest wind 11 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph.

Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 26.

Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 38.

Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 28.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 46.
