Arrests Made in Throop Avenue Shooting

Three men were arrested in connection of the targeted shootings of two New Brunswick men on Sept. 9.

Police have arrested two Bound Brook men and a New Brunswick man in connection with a on Throop Avenue that put two victims in the hospital.

According to Cpt. J.T. Miller of New Brunswick police, Adelberto Espinza, 18, of New Brunswick, Jurgue Marroquin-Cifuentes, 18 of Bound Brook, and Nedis Guzman Morales, 26, of Bound Brook, were all arrested in connection with the shooting, which occurred on Throop Avenue between Suydam and Seaman Streets.

Espinza was arrested on Sept. 11 and Marroquin-Cifuentes was arrested on Sept. 12. Both men were charged with conspiracy to commit murder, according to Miller.

Guzman Morales was arrested on Sept. 13 and charged with attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, possession of a defaced shotgun and unlawful possession of a shotgun, Miller said.

Miller said the two unidentified victims, an adult male from New Brunswick and a juvenile from North Brunswick, are still hospitalized at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening.

Police previously said that the shootings were targeted.

All three defendants are currently being held at the Middlesex County jail in North Brunswick. Bail has not yet been set, Miller said.

Miller said that no comments on the motive of the shooting can be made at this time, as the investigation is ongoing.
