Brand-New Piscataway Park Coming, With Great Lawn, Butterfly Garden
The proposed Piscataway Eco Park is coming to the corner of S. Washington Avenue and Metlars Lane. It will stretch for several dozen acres:
PISCATAWAY, NJ — At their meeting last Tuesday night, March 7, the Piscataway town Council approved a preliminary design of what will be called the Piscataway Ecological Park.
This is a brand-new park — which will span for several dozen acres — coming to the corner of S. Washington Avenue and Metlars Lane.

- It will have a bridge over a stream
- A 600-seat outdoor amphitheater
- A butterfly habitat
- A playground area for toddlers (called the "tot lot")
- A great lawn
- A wildflower area
- A pine tree grove
- A concession stand that will sells snacks
- Bathrooms
- A shared-use path with fitness stations.
There are even future plans to recreate an American Indian Lenape village on site, to be used by local schools as a teaching experience. A multi-use building will also be built on site in the future.
There is no date set yet for when the park will open. Environmental remediation work is taking place right now. The preliminary design and permitting proposal now goes to the New Jersey Dept. of Environmental Protection for their approval.

“Under a warm sun, families and friends will have much to enjoy in our Ecological Park,” Piscataway Councilmember Michele Lombardi (Ward 4) said. “The opportunities to improve our physical health and social wellness will be boundless in this open space oasis. I am thrilled that our entire community will be able to come together among natural and peaceful surroundings.”
