City Properties to be Inspected During Clean Sweep Program

Housing inspectors will search for overgrown lands, graffiti, abandoned furniture and litter.

The City of New Brunswick will conduct its Community Clean Sweep program from September 30 through October 11, to keep the City clean and neat.

Working with property owners, landlords and tenants, the objective of Community Clean Sweep is to keep properties clean and up to code. New Brunswick Housing Inspectors will canvass the entire City looking for litter and garbage in yards, graffiti, overgrown grass, hedges and shrubs, sofas and other indoor furniture on outdoor porches along with rubbish and debris that is not properly stored. In addition, inspectors will be looking for cars parked on lawns and on other non-parking surfaces.

The rules for trash collection are:

No more than three trash bags of containers will be collected for each residential unit. If you need to put out more than three containers for pick up call the Department of Public Works at (732) 745-5104, before 1:00 p.m., the day before the scheduled pick up to get approval for extra containers.

For bulk pick ups, such as furniture, rugs, appliances, etc call the Department of Public Works to arrange a pick up date.
