Contract Awarded for Redshaw School Construction

The long-delayed elementary school is now slated for completion by fall 2014.

A.C. Redshaw elementary school students are a step closer to attending school in their home neighborhood with the recent awarding of a construction contract to build the school.

According to a press released issued Monday by the city Mayor's Office, Hall Construction Co., Inc. of Howell was awarded a $34.8 million contract by the state School Development Authority (SDA) to design and build the new school on Livingston Avenue.

The school will be built on a vacant lot on Livingston Avenue, where the former Redshaw school was torn down seven years ago with the intent to build a new school. The project stalled out and the lot has been vacant since.

Currently, Redshaw students attend school in a converted warehouse space on Jersey Avenue.

In June, the stalled project began to have real movement when it was announced that bids were going out for the project. At that time, the estimated project cost was $41.4 million.
