Turnpike In Carteret Flooded, Plus Iselin, New Brunswick Roads

At least one tornado was confirmed heading toward New Brunswick. Green Street in Iselin is flooded.

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — As of 9:30 p.m., the following roads are flooded and closed in New Brunswick and already a dozen drivers have had to be pulled from cars in South Brunswick, police there said.

There's flooding reporting in the Holland Tunnel inbound to New York City. The New Jersey Turnpike north and south in Carteret is currently flooded and shut down. Green Street in Iselin is flooded.

There are unconfirmed reports of a partial building collapse and gas leak reported due to lightning strike on 20 block of Rolling Road in Middlesex borough.

South Brunswick has also declared a state of emergency and police are begging people to stay home.

In Middlesex borough, Cedar Ave is closed due to flooding between Lincoln Blvd and Hooker St. Please don't drive through high water, said police.

At least one tornado was confirmed heading toward New Brunswick, as a tornado warning remained in effect until at least 8:15 p.m. for the area around Princeton.

Earlier, a tornado emergency was issued for Trenton as the tornado that blew apart homes in Mullica Hill appeared to reform as it headed toward Trenton.

The following roadways are closed due to flooding in New Brunswick:

  • Landing Lane at George Street
  • Jersey Avenue from How Lane to Van Dyke Avenue
  • Livingston Avenue at Wellington Pl.
  • New Street from Kirkpatrick St to Joyce Kilmer Ave
  • Route 27 at NB High School
  • Rt 18 south ramp from College Avenue
  • Joyce Kilmer Ave from Loretto St to Elizabeth St

Also, please avoid the ramp from George Street/College Avenue to Rt 18 south (under Deiner Park) due to heavy flooding.

In North Brunswick, some roads not passable due to abandoned vehicles. The following roads are closed: Georges Rd & Milltown Road, Jersey Avenue from Huron to Corporate Rd., Georges Road and Second Ave, Georges Road and Pardun , Fillmore and Wood Ave, Livingsotn Avenue, Axel at Poplar, Carlisle and Ute Roads, Platte and Seneca, Sherman & Williamson Road, Hoover Dr & Lovell Place, Roosevelt Ave and Farrington Blvd & Hoover Drive.
