Lithium Batteries From E-Bikes, Scooters Fueled Piscataway Fire
The fire in Piscataway Park Saturday night was accelerated by the lithium batteries in e-bikes and scooters stored in the garage.
PISCATAWAY, NJ — There was a fire in a garage in the Piscataway Park apartment complex Saturday night, and the blaze was accelerated by lithium-ion batteries from e-scooters and bikes stored in the garage, according to News 12.
The fire was contained to a 12-unit garage building located on Royal Drive. The fire started at 9:44 p.m. Saturday, according to the East Franklin Fire Department. The fire consumed the entire 12-unit garage structure, but did not spread to any nearby apartments or homes.
The fire rose to multiple-alarm status, said the local firehouse. Mutual aid from surrounding towns had to be called in and it took fire crews more than two hours to put out the fire.

Also, Middlesex County Haz Mat had to be called in. The county hazmat unit helped remove batteries from scooters and bikes that caught on fire, according to News 12.
