Middlesex County Man Charged With Attempted Murder

FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, NJ — A Highland Park man, pictured above, is accused of trying to stab a New Brunswick man to death.

This happened at 8:03 p.m. Sunday, March 24 in the vicinity of Hamilton Street in Franklin Township, according to Somerset County Prosecutor John McDonald.

Thomas E. Carter, 61, who lives on Montgomery Street in Highland Park, was arrested and charged with attempted murder.

Franklin Twp. Police were called to a local hospital that evening by hospital workers who said they were treating a man with a stab wound. The stabbing victim, from New Brunswick, sustained potential life-threatening injuries and had to undergo emergency surgery.

Following surgery, the victim was interviewed by detectives from the Franklin Township Police Department and the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit. He said he was stabbed in the course of an argument that occurred in the vicinity of Hamilton Street in Franklin Township on Sunday, March 24.

Detectives were able to identify Carter as the person responsible for the stabbing, said the prosecutor.

He was arrested without incident March 26 at his home in Highland Park and charged with first-degree attempted murder, plus weapons offenses.
