Independent Candidates Drop Out of City Council Race

Charlie Kratovil, Yolonda Baker and Jonathan Coloma ran as the "Unbought and Unbossed" ticket.

Three independent candidates for city council have withdrawn from the election.

It was announced Friday afternoon that New Brunswick residents Charlie Kratovil, 26, Yolonda Baker, 43, and Jonathan Coloma, 22, plan to withdraw from the race for city council in November, according to a press release from the trio's campaign manager, Sean Monahan. 

They were incumbent councilwoman Betsy Garlatti and newcomer John A. Anderson for the three seats.

“We want to thank everyone for the tremendous support we've received thus far. We are very grateful to everyone who helped with the campaign and appreciate everyone’s support in making this difficult decision," Kratovil said, in a prepared statement.

Kratovil is an activist in New Brunswick and works with NJ Food and Water Watch. He currently runs the website newbrunswicktoday.com.

Baker is a Democratic Commiteewoman in New Brunswick and a working mother who is involved with the local public schools.

Coloma currently attends Rutgers University and is developing the website
