NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — The New Jersey chapter of a Latina sorority pooled their money to open free little libraries in New Brunswick and West Orange.

Their West Orange library will be unveiled at 1 p.m. this Sunday, April 28, and is located at 145 Watchung Avenue in West Orange.

The women are doing this to promote literacy in those communities. The free Little Library boxes have books kids can take from it, and the boxes are decorated with the sorority's colors and insignia.

If you want to help, the sorority is also collecting monetary and book donations to help fill the libraries with diverse books for kids and young adults.

This same sorority previously built two mini-libraries in White Plains, NY, where they were chosen for a "Love Your Block" grant from the city of White Plains.

"One moving testimony came from a client of mine, a domestic violence victim, who shared how the Battle Hill Mini-Library has become an invaluable resource for her and her two sons," said sorority member Vanessa Barreto, of the Theta Omicron graduate/professional chapter of Westchester County and Connecticut. "Lacking and being unable to afford transportation, she found solace in the mini-library closest to her home, where she could spend quality time with her children, instill in them the importance of reading and broaden their horizons."
