NAACP To Host Several Area Events
The NAACP's statewide conference begins on Friday at the East Brunswick Hilton.

Members and friends of the NAACP will be very active in the area over the next several weeks with three NAACP events being held in the New Brunswick and East Brunswick areas.
The 2012 Annual NJ State NAACP Convention will take place from Sept. 7 through Sept. 9 at the East Brunswick Hilton, 3 Tower Center Blvd.
The theme of the convention is "Your Power, Your Decision - VOTE".

Scheduled speakers are to include the Rev. Deforest "Buster" Soaries of the First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens, author Maggie Anderson, author Marc Lamont Hill, and author Michael Eric Dyson.
According to the NAACP, the event is to feature a Gospel showcase, a health fair, workshops and exhibits and recognition of scholarship, mayoral award and attorney award recipients.

On Sept. 16, the New Brunswick Area Branch NAACP will host a performance of an original production, entitled "The Cost of Freedom" at Crossroads Theatre, 7 Livingston Ave.
The performance is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. Tickets are $40.

On Oct. 13, the New Brunswick Area Branch NAACP will host its 39th Annual Freedom Fund Luncheon at the First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens in Somerset.
Honored guests at the luncheon are scheduled to include Susan Settles of Crossroads Theatre Company, and Laura D. Blackburne of the NAACP Board of Directors, and a retired NY State Supreme Court Judge.
