New Brunswick Area NAACP to Honor Community Contributors
The New Brunswick Area Branch NAACP will have their 40th Annual Freedom Fund Luncheon on Saturday in Somerset.

The New Brunswick Area Branch NAACP will honor about a dozen community leaders and groups at their 40th annual Freedom Fund Luncheon on Saturday.
The following honorees are being recognized for their contributions in working to create equal opportunities for people of of walks of life, according to a press release from the New Brunswick NAACP:
Corporate Diversity: Anthony Carter, Vice President, Global Diversity & Inclusion, and Chief Diversity Officer for Johnson & Johnson.
Education Advocacy: Baruti Kafele, Award-winning principal, internationally-renowned education speaker and best-selling author.

Education Advocacy: Education Law Center- serves as the leading voice for New Jersey’s public school children.
Political Action: Matthew Vaughn, Councilman, South River and Chair, Middlesex County Black Caucus.

Community Outreach: Ana “Cuqui” Rivera, Community Organizer & Advocate.
Medgar Wiley Evers Leadership: Maureen Archibald, Harvest of Hope.
Faith Based Initiative: Korean Presbyterian Church, Somerset, NJ.
Entrepreneur: Barbara Jones, Flowers by Barbara.
Health Advocacy: Mariam Merced, MA. Director of Community Health Promotions, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.
Profile in Courage Award: C. Vivian Stringer, Head Coach Rutgers Women’s Basketball.
President’s Award: Susan Settles, Director, Audience Development, Crossroads Theatre.
The luncheon is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26 at the First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens in Somerset.
A keynote address will be given by Scot X. Esdaile, NAACP Connecticut State Conference President, according to a press release from the New Brunswick NAACP.
Luncheon tickets are $60, with proceeds going toward scholarships for graduating high school seniors in Middlesex and Somerset counties, according to the organization.
