New Brunswick Declares Code Red, Opens Cooling Center

AccuWeather warns RealFeel temps. will feel like 110 degrees in parts of New York, Philadelphia and Boston Thursday and Friday:

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — Due to excessive heat, a Code Red has now been issued for New Brunswick. This means that the heat has risen to levels that could seriously injure or kill people, especially the homeless, senior citizens, young children and people without air conditioning.

New Brunswick Police have opened an emergency cooling center for residents without shelter, open Thursday from 12 to 7 p.m. at Unity Square Community Center at 81 Remsen Ave.

Anyone looking for additional help should call NJ 211.

AccuWeather warns that the "real feel" temperatures will feet hotter than 100 degrees Thursday and Friday at the height of the heat wave. In fact, RealFeel temperatures can top 110 in urban locations of the major I-95 cities.

Record-challenging heat will not only persist straight through the weekend in major cities up and down the Eastern Seaboard, but temperatures may also climb to levels that haven’t been felt for 10 years in some locations.

High temperatures are expected to reach 90 degrees and higher in Philadelphia, New York City and Boston for several days through at least this weekend.
