New Brunswick Man Charged In False Report Over Gunshot Wound

Aldo Ruiz-Galindo, 20, was charged after he lied to authorities about how he was shot in New Brunswick, police said.

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ - A 20-year-old New Brunswick man was charged after he suffered a gunshot wound Wednesday as he lied to the police about how he was shot, authorities said.

Around 5:41 p.m. on Wednesday, Rutgers University police responded to the Douglass Parking Deck to a report of a man who sustained a gunshot wound to a lower extremity.

The man, identified as Aldo Ruiz-Galindo, initially reported that he was shot several blocks away in New Brunswick. However, an investigation by Rutgers University police found that the wound was self-inflicted and occurred within the Douglass Parking Deck while he was alone in his vehicle, police said.

Ruiz-Galindo was transported to a local hospital for a non-life threatening injury and remains in police custody, authorities said. Ruiz-Galindo was charged with multiple offenses, including possession of a weapon and false report to law enforcement authorities.

The investigation is ongoing. Rutgers University police urge anyone with additional information, or who may have been in the area at the time, to contact the RUPD Detective Bureau at 848-932-8025.
