New Brunswick Men Found Guilty of Robbery Plan

Sentencing will be handed down on Nov. 4.

Two New Brunswick men have been convicted on charges of planning a robbery.

According to a press release from the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office, Lamar Jones, 26 and Hopeton Brown, 25, both of New Brunswick were convicted on Sept. 19 of conspiracy to commit a robbery.

Jones was also found guilty of unlawful possession of a handgun and possession of a handgun for an unlawful purpose, according to the release.

According to the Prosecutor's Office, Jones and Brown are members of the Bounty Hunters set of the Bloods street gang. They went to a North Brunswick residence at Woodland Avenue and Jerome Place with the intent of robbing a resident there, but fled the scene when police arrived. They were later arrested following an investigation by the North Brunswick Police Department.

Jones potentially faces 20 years in state prison and Brown 10 years. Both must serve 85 percent of their respective sentences before they become eligible for parole, according to the release.

They are set to be sentenced on Nov. 4 in New Brunswick.
