New Labor Protests Alleged Wage Theft at BP

New Labor protested in support of a former employee of the French Street gas station.

40 people petitioned outside of a BP gas station on French Street Friday afternoon in support of a worker whom they say was fired for filing a wage theft claim.

According to New Labor, the employee filed a wage theft claim with the state reporting that he was owed overtime and other unpaid wages after working from 10 p.m.-6 a.m. seven days a week for three years with one unpaid day off every three months.

40 people protested outside of the gas station from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Friday. New Labor was joined by members of Rutgers’ United Students Against Sweatshops, the Central Jersey Coalition Against Endless War, and the Industrial Union Council, according to the organization.
