PISCATAWAY, NJ — On Thursday, Piscataway Police published to their Facebook page a remarkable, 41-second video that shows police officers pulling an impaired man out of his car on the New Brunswick Avenue train tracks — just seconds before a freight train slammed into the vehicle.

It was shortly after midnight on May 12 when Piscataway Police officers D. Hinchcliffe and J. Ward responded to a 911 call of a car stopped on the train tracks on New Brunswick Avenue.

The driver, a young man, was impaired; police did not specify how, but he was unable to follow officers' commands to get out of the car. The train's whistle can be heard in the distance, getting closer and closer.

As the gates were coming down, the two officers ran to the car, pulled the man out by his arms and legs and pulled him off the tracks.

"They're coming, they're coming!" a female dispatcher can be heard shouting over the police radio. She appears to be talking to a caller on the line, possibly the man's mother who called 911, as a woman's voice is heard saying "Mom" at one point.

"They're dragging him out of the car. The car is stopped right there," said the dispatcher.

"They're gonna hit the car," the dispatcher then says, of the train.

Not even 10 seconds later, a freight train slams into the sedan. Nobody was injured.

Watch:

"Recognizing the imminent danger posed by an approaching train, the officers swiftly and safely removed the driver just seconds before impact. Their quick action prevented a potential tragedy, and we commend Officer Hinchcliffe and Officer Ward for their prompt and effective response," said Piscataway Police in a statement.
