Author and foodie Ted Allen stepped out of the kitchen and onto Rutgers campus on Thursday to sign copies of his new book and chat with fans at the new Rutgers Barnes and Noble bookstore.

Allen, 47, was promoting his new book "In My Kitchen: 100 Recipes and Discoveries for Passionate Cooks," which was published this past May.

He is known for his appearances on television programs like "Iron Chef America," "Top Chef," and "Chopped."

Allen's appearance at the store was one several events planned by Barnes and Noble to celebrate the store's opening and the start of the semester.

Through Sept. 22, the store will host a fundraiser to benefit Rutgers Against Hunger (RAH), giving patrons the option of donating money at the time of purchase, according to the Barnes and Noble website.

At 12:30 p.m. Friday, author and Rutgers faculty member Regina Marchi will sign copies of her book, "Day of the Dead."

At 6 p.m. Friday, the bookstore will host a trivia contest and a book signing by NJ historian Gordon Bond.

At 11 a.m. Saturday, "Curious George" will make an appearance in the children's section of the library.
