NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — A woman was fatally shot by a police officer in the city of New Brunswick Friday morning, announced New Jersey Attorney General Matt Platkin.
Her identity is not being released at this time.
New Brunswick Police officers were dispatched to an apartment building on Neilson Street Friday morning in response to a 911 call about a resident walking around with a knife in the hallway.

It was a woman who lived in the building.
Responding officers arrived at the woman's apartment and had a discussion with the woman, who was behind her closed apartment door. Subsequently, the woman exited the apartment with a knife and officers encountered her in the hallway.

New Brunswick Police officers sprayed OC spray (commonly known as pepper spray) and a taser. One officer then deployed his service weapon, striking the woman.
She was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, where she was pronounced deceased. Law enforcement recovered a knife at the scene.
The investigation is ongoing and no further information is being released at this time.
