Zimmerli Announces Rutgers Day Activities

The Zimmerli Art Museum at Rutgers is delighted to participate in the annual Rutgers Day on Saturday, April 27, with free family programs on the College Avenue campus, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Visit the museum for scavenger hunts, face painting, caricatures, storytelling, and tours. Activities take place throughout the museum, as well as outdoors on Voorhees Mall, adjacent to the building. In addition, the newly reopened Z Café, located inside the Zimmerli, offers a variety of breakfast, lunch, and snack items for purchase. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Be an Art Detective Scavenger Hunts: Using the new Family Guide on Sculpture, explore the galleries of the Zimmerli Art Museum to win exciting prizes. This activity is enjoyable for the entire family.

I Am Art Face Painting: Butterflies, dinosaurs, “R” for Rutgers pride...these are just a few of the face painting options inside the museum or beneath the Zimmerli tent on the Quad.

11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Caricatures, The Funny Side of Art: Your portrait for posterity – or just for fun. Sit for a caricature artist and see yourself in a whole new light.

11:45 a.m.

The Art of Dance: The Rutgers Day Parade stops on Voorhees Mall for a performance outside of the museum. Zimmerli favorites (and Mason Gross alum) Meagan Woods & Company perform a vibrant dance set, accompanied by the university's marching band.

Noon, 1 p.m., 2 p.m. (half-hour sessions)

Gallery Discovery Tours: Museum docents guide small groups for a V.I.P. look at the Zimmerli. Tours explore the permanent American, Russian, and European collections, as well as special exhibitions.

2 to 4 p.m. (20-minute sessions)

Preschool Adventures in Storytelling: Families with young children are transported into the world of fantasy as they join storyteller Ellen Musikant for adventures of the imagination. Storytelling programs are supported by funding from The PNC Foundation as part of PNC Grow Up Great.

Rutgers Day offers free parking and admission, as well as on-campus shuttles among the College Avenue, Cook/Douglass, and Busch campuses. Each campus features a vast array of activities and entertainment, as well as opportunities for prospective students and their parents to explore the university. The event is rain or shine.

Rutgers Day is sponsored in part by Barnes & Noble at Rutgers, Saint Peter's Healthcare System, and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.

Location and Hours

The Zimmerli Art Museum is located at 71 Hamilton Street at George Street on the College Avenue campus of Rutgers University in New Brunswick. The Zimmerli is a short walk from the NJ Transit train station in New Brunswick, midway between New York City and Philadelphia.

Hours are Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m., and the first Wednesday of each month (except August), 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. The museum is closed Mondays, major holidays, and the month of August.

Admission is $6 for adults; $5 for 65 and over; and free for museum members, children under 18, and Rutgers students, faculty, and staff (with ID).
