SOD Attending BOE Meeting Leads the Week in New Milford
SOD is getting the word out for residents to attend Monday's BOE meeting to voice their concerns regarding the BOE's conceptual contract with Hekemian for a three-acre 'Field of Dreams.'

Monday's meeting of the Board of Education may have an audience filled with more than the regular attendees. Although it is only a work session, SOD (Stop Over Development) is spreading the word for residents to attend to voice their opinion and raise concerns regarding the Board's agreement with the developer of the United Water property for a three-acre 'Field of Dreams' where the site plans currently have a storm water detention basin.
During the May 14 meeting of the Zoning Board of Adjustment, the lawyer for the applicant revealed that the New Milford Board of Education (BOE) had entered into a separate agreement with the developer of the United Water property to receive a parcel of land to build a 'field of dreams.'
Antimo "Andy" DelVecchio, informed the Zoning Board that Hekemian had entered into a "conceptual contract" with the New Milford BOE to donate "in excess" of three acres of property to construct a field of dreams-like "state of the art" athletic field and stadium on a parcel of property that is not subject to flooding.

DelVecchio said that the storm water detention basin will be moved to the current softball field, but an easement will be provided to allow for the basin. Underground pipes will be installed to drain the water from the new field site into the retention basin to alleviate any potential flooding. (The softball field will remain the property of the BOE.)
During the May 29 meeting of the Mayor and Council, the resolution to rezone the United Water property was soundly defeated 4-2.
