Mayor and Council Work Session

Hurricane Irene After Action meeting scheduled, income-based energy relief program, and proposed amendment to the Swim Club's lease

Here's a recap of last night's Mayor and Council work session:

  • After Action Meeting to discuss Hurricane Irene: Mayor Subrizi, Borough Administrator Christine Demiris, Chief of Police Frank Papapietro, and the DPW will meet Wednesday, Oct. 19th at 9 a.m. to review how the town prepared, responded, and how it is recovering from Hurricane Irene. The meeting is open to the public and will be held upstairs in Borough Hall.
  • Proposed amendment to Swim Club Lease Agreement: Swim Club representative, Mary Ayoub, requested that the Mayor and Council amend the clause in the Swim Club's lease agreement to allow concessions. Ayoub reported that the club would subcontract a local vendor to prepare the food off-site and deliver it fresh daily. The Mayor and Council agreed to write a resolution to amend the lease. A resolution is also being prepared to open swim club memberships to out-ot-towners as a way of increasing membership.
  • Other business included a report from the newly formed Athletic Field Committee regarding possible locations for an athletic field in a non-flood area, and a request from the parents of Melissa Sofia for a memorial street sign.

Patch will be following up on these stories.

The next public meeting of the Mayor and Council will be on Monday, Oct. 24th. The work session begins at 7 p.m. upstairs, and the general public meeting begins at 7:45 p.m. in the council chambers.
