Recount in New Milford Council Race Thursday

Scavetta files suit, asking for recount in race she lost by eight votes.

 

A motion was filed in Superior Court by Republican Councilwoman Celeste Scavetta of New Milford asking for a recount of the Nov. 8 election ballots. 

The preliminary numbers showed that Scavetta had lost the election by 10 votes. However, she gained two additional votes after the provisional ballots were counted, resulting in a loss by only eight votes.

"Because of such a close count, I feel obligated to pursue this for the people of New Milford," Scavetta told Patch. 

The recount will take place this Thursday in two locations: 10 :30 a.m. at the Election Machine Warehouse, 660 Gotham Parkway, Carlstadt immediately followed by a hearing before a judge in Hackensack.
