APRIL 2019 EVENTS


Apr 1 @ 7 - 8:30 PM - Knitting/Crocheting Group (Adults)
Drop by the Coddington room with a knitting, crocheting or other fiber art project to work on.

*Apr 2 @ 7-8 PM - College Admissions Essay Workshop (Teens Grades 9-12)
Come learn from Joe Pickton, New Providence resident, parent, Language Arts teacher, and tutor. Students will learn tips for choosing essay topics, how to make their essay stand out, and basic strategies for writing a cohesive, representative piece that will impress college admissions reviewers. Register for this event on NP Community Pass.

Apr 4 @ 7:30 - 8:30 PM - Book Group (Adults)
The book group will discuss The Shell Seekers by Rosamunde Pilcher. Copies of the book will be available to pick up at the front desk in the preceding month. New members welcome.

Apr 6 @ 10:30 - noon - Community Garden Launch and Seed Exchange (Adults)
After the annual meeting of the NP Community Garden, a seed exchange will start around 11 am. Bring seeds (and descriptive growing info) to share and swap with others. Envelopes will be provided and Master Gardeners will be on hand.

Apr 7 @ 3 PM - Declutter Like You’re Moving (Adults)
Jamie Novak, organizing expert, humorist, and author of Keep This, Toss That, will give you practical advice on decluttering your home, just in time for real estate season. This is your last chance to see Jamie on the East Coast for the next few years. Free, no registration necessary.

Apr 8 @ 7 - 9 PM - Baseball Discussion Group (All Ages)
Baseball fans are invited to come talk about their favorite teams and players, or just listen.

April 9 @ 3:30 PM - Snap Circuits Jr. Club (Kids)
Calling all budding scientists and engineers! Snap circuits makes learning electronics easy and fun! come and put together various circuit boards.

Apr 14 @ 2 PM - Poetry Reading and Open Mic (Adults)
Join us for a poetry reading and open mic event at the New Providence Memorial Library. Featured Poets include: Sondra Gash, Nancy Gerber, Deborah Gerrish, Deborah LaVeglia, Diane Lockward, Bob Rosenbloom and Christine Redman-Waldeyer. Open mic readings to follow featured guest poets. Sign up at the event to read your own works.

*Apr 15 @ 3:30 PM- Kids Crafternoon (Kids)
Get crafty with us and make a pretty springtime craft perfect to brighten up your room or give as a gift this upcoming Mother’s Day!

Apr 15 @ 1-3 PM - Teen Movie - Aquaman (Teens Grades 6-12)
Come to the library to enjoy this action-packed adventure that spans the vast, visually breathtaking underwater world of the seven seas. Aquaman, starring Jason Momoa, reveals the origin story of half-human, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry and takes him on the journey of his lifetime—one that will not only force him to face who he really is, but to discover if he is worthy of who he was born to be... a king. PG-13

*Apr 16 @ 4:00 PM - Art & Stories with Miss Alyson (Kids in Grades K-2)
Join Miss Alyson for a special story, literacy activity & craft. Registration required.

*Apr 17 @ 3:30 PM- Insectropolis: Bugs on the Go! (Kids)
Explore the mini universe of bugs! Through live, touchable bugs as well as exotic pinned specimens, participants will explore the lives and challenges of these tiny creatures. Registration is required and is limited.

Apr 18 @ 3 PM- Family Movie: Mary Poppins Returns (Kids & Families)
Mary Poppins returns to save the day and take the Banks family on a magical fun-filled adventure! Children 10 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
Apr 18 @ 10 - 11 AM - Book Group (Adults)
The library book group will discuss Educated by Tara Westover. Copies of the book will be available to pick up at the front desk in the preceding month for members of the book group.

April 23 @ 3:30 PM - LEGO Club (Kids)
Come build with us! Try the monthly challenge or build any creation you’d like!

Apr 25 @ 3-4:30 PM - Teen Wii Gaming - Super Smash Bros Tournament (Teens Grades 6-12)
The Super Smash Bros Tournament is back! Bring some friends for a Wii gaming afternoon. Sign in for a slot on our bracket and see who is declare the new Super Smash Bros champion!

*Apr 27 @ 1-3 PM - UC Rape Crisis Center on Media Literacy & Violence Prevention (Teens & Parents)
The Union County Rape Crisis Center will give an insightful presentation on media literacy & violence prevention for teens. Sons, daughters and parents are all invited to come for this important discussion. *Register on NP Community Pass.

Apr 28 @ 3 PM - Pirates of Penzance (Adults)
The Light Opera of NJ will perform an abridged version of Gilbert and Sullivan’s comic opera, “Pirates of Penzance.” Free. This program was funded by the Friends of the New Providence Memorial Library.

Apr 29 @ 2 PM - Skype Basics (Adults)
Skype is a free internet voice and video call service. Learn how to use Skype to make video call from your computer or mobile device. Skype is great for talking to far-off grandchildren or other family members.

Teen Study Space (Middle & High School Students)
Reserved space in the library for all teens who need a quiet place to read and work. Tables, chairs and wifi available. Come with a study group, help out a friend, or just get your own work done. Drop in & out as needed. No registration required.
