Clifton Named One of the Best Places to Live in the U.S. by Livability

For more than a decade, Livability.com has published its annual Best Places to Live in the U.S. list, spotlighting cities that offer a high quality of life at an accessible cost. The 2025 list highlights 100 small to midsize cities across the country that strike the right balance of affordability, opportunity, and livability.

Each city is evaluated using nearly 100 data points across eight categories: economy, housing and cost of living, amenities, transportation, environment, safety, education, and health. The goal is to help people discover communities where they can build a life, not just afford to live.

This year, Clifton, NJ earned a spot on the national list and ranked highest in the country for amenities.

Known for its easy access to New York City, Clifton is more than a commuter town. With 39 parks, dozens of sports courts and fields, and a full calendar of festivals and family events, the city offers a strong quality of life for its nearly 88,000 residents.

Clifton also boasts a thriving arts and culture scene, from rotating exhibits at the Clifton Arts Center to the historic Hamilton House Museum. It’s also home to the nationally recognized Brighton Asylum, a haunted attraction that draws visitors from across the region.

The city’s strong public and private schools, low crime rates, and healthy local economy further solidify its reputation as a great place to live, work and raise a family.
