List Of Union County Road Closures Friday

Road closures and power outages are being reported across Union County.

NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ — Roads across Union County are closing due to downed trees, wires and the weather. Widespread power outages are also being reported. Check back here as more information gets updated.

In Cranford, Kenilworth Boulevard closed between Springfield Avenue and the Kenilworth border due to downed utility poles and wires, as of 7 p.m.

As of 6:08 pm., there's a downed tree on US 22 westbound area of CR 655/Bonnie Burn Rd/Park Ave in Scotch Plains Township. All lanes closed and detoured 10-15 minute delay, according to nj511.org.

As of 4:30 p.m., there's a downed tree on US 22 westbound area of CR 635/Mountain Ave in Springfield Township. Right lane closed 5-10 minute delay, according to nj511.org.

In Summit, trees, poles and live wires down on Blackburn Road, Divison Road, Risk Avenue. Drivers should avoid these areas. "Roads are impassable. Stay off the roads please stay off roadways if possible," Summit Police reported as of 6:11 p.m.

In Clark, Raritan Road between Walnut and Central Avenues is closed due to down power lines and pole. Drivers should avoid the area, police announced as of 4:08 p.m.

Pleasant Street and W. Linden Avenue is closed by Route 1 and S. Stiles Street in Linden due to downed wires, police report at 4:25 p.m.

Division Avenue in New Providence is currently closed in between Mountain Avenue and Tall Oaks Drive Friday, police announced around 3:30 p.m.

Additionally in Mountainside, New Providence Road between Deer Path and Central Ave is closed due to a fallen tree with power lines down. Drivers should use W.R. Tracy Dr as a detour, police announced around 2 p.m.

New Providence Rd between Summit Lane and Bayberry Lane is also closed. Detour is Bayberry Lane. Coles Avenue between Tanager Way and Ackerman Avenue is also closed in Mountainside. Detour is Tanager Way - Deer Path - Ackerman Ave, police announced around 3:30 p.m.

Kean University also closed early as of 3:30 p.m. due to the weather. (See Related: Kean University Is Closing Early Due To Weather)

Widespread power outages are being reported across Union County due to the nor'easter blanketing the area with rain and snow Friday. The number of residents without power has risen to about 5,500 as of 5:45 p.m.

PSE&G is reporting as of 4:30 p.m. 4,215 customers without power, that is up from 1,081 customers earlier on Friday.

Breakdown of outages:

  • 1,092 in Plainfield,
  • 971 in Kenilworth,
  • 803 in Westfield,
  • 486 in Cranford,
  • 258 in Scotch Plains,
  • 205 in Mountainside,
  • 154 in Union,
  • 111 in Fanwood,
  • 37 in Clark,
  • 74 in Rahway,
  • 7 in Linden,
  • 5 in Roselle
  • Fewer than five in both Garwood, Hillside and Roselle Park.

JCP&L is reporting as of 5:45 p.m. 1,492 customers without power, up from 764 customers earlier on Friday.

Here is a breakdown of the outages:

  • 901 in Summit,
  • 278 in Springfield,
  • 213 in Berkeley Heights,
  • 100 in New Providence.

"We are experiencing power outages due to severe weather and are assessing damage. We will provide estimated restoration times when they are available," JCP&L reported.
