Hillview Fields Closed Until 2014

Base reconstruction work already completed.

Editor's note: The following letter by New Providence Administrator Douglas R. Marvin was addressed to "our New Providence community" and posted at the borough's website, http://www.newprov.org/.

As you may be aware, the Hillview Fields are undergoing a major reconstruction. We are very pleased with the progress of the project to date and expect the Fields to be completed by the beginning of October.

The base work has been completed by Dakota Construction with Field Turf expected to begin their work next week. Once Field Turf has finished their work, Dakota will return for additional grading, sod and seeding; followed by the installation of a new irrigation system. Finally, deep aeration with sand infill, as  well as over-seeding, fertilizing and weed control, will occur.

While it will appear that the fields are available for play once these phases are complete, the fields will remain closed until next spring. In the spring of 2014, the fields will be open for baseball only. The new turf will need time to become established and strong enough to withstand play. The fields will not be available for any rectangular field play until the fall of 2014.
