Man Broke Into 5 Vehicles On Union County Streets: Police
The 20-year-old is also charged with multiple other attempted burglaries.
NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ — A 20-year-old man is facing multiple burglary charges after police say he broke into vehicles along several different streets.
Saleem Martins, 20 of Elizabeth, is charged with five counts of motor vehicle burglary, two counts of attempted motor vehicle burglary, possession of burglary tools, resisting arrest by flight, hindering apprehension, and obstruction of the administration of the law.
On Tuesday, New Providence Police officers responded at around 11:45 a.m. to Deerfield Road for a report of someone entering a neighbor's vehicle. The witness said they also watched the suspect try to enter two other vehicles before officers arrived.

Police determined the suspect ran away to the area of South Street and began searching the surrounding streets. At this time, another complaint came in regarding an attempted burglary in the area of Hawthorne Drive.
An additional two vehicle burglaries were then reported in the 1600 block of Springfield Ave., along with two more attempts along Ethan Drive.

Police were able to find and arrest Martins without conflict on Union Avenue at around 2 p.m.
