New Providence Police Blotter: Sept. 7 - Sept. 15

The following information was supplied by the New Providence Police Department. Any arrest information does not indicate a conviction.

9-7-12 – Patrolman Andrew Diamond arrested Christopher Smith, 35, of Newark on an outstanding warrant out of the City of Newark.  The warrant was located during a motor vehicle stop on Diamond Hill Road.  Mr. Smith was also charged with operating a vehicle without insurance and while his license was suspended.  Mr. Smith was released after posting bail.

9-8-12 – Patrolman Andrew Diamond arrested Anthony Murray, 23, of Brentwood, NY on outstanding warrants out of Scotch Plains, Sparta and Westfield.  The warrants were located during a motor vehicle stop on Union Avenue where Mr. Murray was a passenger in the vehicle.  He was released after posting bail. 

9-12-12 – Patrolman Joseph DiParisi charged John Iantosca, 55, of Chatham with driving while intoxicated.  The charges stem from the officer observing Mr. Iantosca operating his vehicle in a reckless manner on Diamond Hill Road and Union Avenue.  Mr. Iantosca was also charged with refusal to submit to breath tests, reckless driving, failure to wear his seatbelt, failure to signal a turn and failing to keep right.

9-12-12 – A Central Avenue resident reported a motor vehicle burglary sometime between 10:45 p.m. on Sept. 11 and 8:45 a.m. on Sept. 12.  Entry to the vehicle was gained to the vehicle through an open window. 

9-13-12 – Patrolman Michael Hand responded to Ridgeview Avenue on a reported hit-and-run motor vehicle crash.  The victim stated that she observed a vehicle drive over her lawn and garbage cans.  A witness followed the vehicle and was able to describe the vehicle and give a license plate.  An investigation revealed that a 17-year-old juvenile was responsible for the crash.  He was issued summonses for leaving the scene of a crash, failure to report a crash and careless driving.

9-14-12 – A landscaper working on Hickson Drive reported the theft of a leaf blower valued at $600 from his work truck while crews were mowing lawns. 

9-15-12 – Patrolman Andrew Diamond charged Nicholas Heilman, 50, of South Plainfield with driving while intoxicated.  The charges stem from Patrolman Diamond observing the vehicle operating in an unsafe manner on South Street.  He was also charged with careless driving.  Mr. Heilman was released to a family member with a pending court date.

9-15-12 – Patrolman Andrew Diamond took a 14-year-old juvenile into protective custody after observing him urinating in the middle of Academy Street.  He was released to his parents.
