Untied Brewery To Open In New Providence

New Providence locals husband and wife Matt and Kim Green and their cousin Mark Russo will open up the brewery and tasting room this fall.

NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ — A New Providence family with a passion for beer and community is opening their very first craft brewery and tasting room in their hometown.

The New Providence Planning Board approved the plans for Untied Brewing at the Tuesday night meeting.

Untied Brewing is owned by New Providence locals husband and wife Matt and Kim Green and their cousin Mark Russo. They are planning to open up the brewery and tasting room at 140 Spring St., Unit C this fall.

“We are really excited,” Kim Green said. “Matt and I and our kids have been residents of New Providence for five years and have been looking for a location for this business in town for two and a half years… It’s been a long time coming.”

Green noted as hometown residents, how it was “really important to be established in town.”

“The building is perfect — a raw canvas we can really work with creatively. It’s the perfect size and great location on a dead end street,” Green said.

The location is in the center of town which makes it easy to access for the New Providence and surrounding community members.

"For our family, work life balance is key; we can walk or bike to work, home, and the kid’s school; one of the many perks of living in a town like New Providence," Green said.

“It’s going to be great and the town has been wonderful. The town officials and the residents have been very open-minded and have encouraged bringing new, unique business into town that use the industrial area in new and creative ways,” Green said. “We feel lucky to live here, build a business here, and be surrounded by so many great people.”

Untied started long before the family decided to open a business. Matt and Mark started home brewing and really had a passion for it and realized they could turn their hobby into a business.

Now the family-run business plans on unveiling a dozen or more craft beers on tap with a rotating menu. As they are creative and experimental, Untied will use the tasting room to get a feel for what people want so that they can create staple products while also trying new and unique approaches to craft brews.

And just as the name suggests, the Greens and Russo want locals to get “untied” with them. Untie themselves from their work and regular responsibilities – take a break and just come on over, kick back with family, friends, colleagues and enjoy a variety of craft beers.

“We encourage people to engage with us — share your ideas, get untied with us! We look forward to building many new relationships as this business grows,” Green said.
