• Gene Haas Foundation awards $12K to support machine tool students at Sussex County Community College (wrnjradio.com) — Sussex County Community College in Newton has received a $12,000 Gene Haas Foundation grant to help local Machine Tool Technology students with tuition and expenses. The funding supports a growing advanced manufacturing program, including new concurrent courses for area high schoolers and early-college partnerships, as SCCC enrolls students for its spring semester starting January 20.
   

• Atlantic Health maternity centers earn national high-performing designation from U.S. News; Newton also recognized for care access (wrnjradio.com) — Newton Medical Center has been named both a 2026 High Performing hospital for uncomplicated maternity care and a Maternity Care Access Hospital, highlighting its importance to local families. The U.S. News & World Report designations, shared with three other Atlantic Health hospitals, recognize strong safety outcomes, breastfeeding support, and birthing-friendly practices that matter to expectant parents in and around Newton.
   

• Newton co-op defeats Morris Catholic tri-op - Boys ice hockey recap (nj.com subscription) — Newton-Lenape Valley’s co-op boys hockey team notched a 4-1 win over Morris Catholic-St. Elizabeth-Newark Academy, powered by two goals from Joey Gallucci and a standout 35-save performance by goalie Adam Yacuk. The game at Mennen Arena showcased strong special-teams play, with Newton scoring twice shorthanded before adding late insurance in the third period.
