Man Ran Through Oakland Woods, Police Charge Him With DUI: Cops

Logan Dipaolo, 24, was first seen lying near a vehicle on Franklin Avenue Monday morning, police said. Then, he ran through the woods.

OAKLAND, NJ — Police arrested a man who ran through the woods and charged him with driving under the influence Monday morning, authorities said.

Police got a report from a concerned resident at 9:52 a.m. about someone who was lying outside a vehicle on Franklin Avenue, said Detective Lt. Christian Eldridge.

Police arrived and the person who called them said the person got up and ran through woods adjacent to Interstate 287, Eldridge said.

Two Oakland police officers apprehended the man, Logan Dipaolo, 24, of Chester, New York, and he was charged with driving under the influence, Eldridge said.

Police searched Dipaolo's vehicle and found several folds of suspected heroin and hypodermic needles, the lieutenant said. After police questioned Dipaolo, another person, Joseph Bokun was found at Walgreens, Eldridge said. Bokun was arrested and charged with being under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance.

Canine officers from the Bergen County Sheriff's Department found a handgun and a controlled dangerous substance in the woods Dipaolo ran through, Eldridge said.

Dipaolo was charged with driving under the influence, unlawful possession of a handgun, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and certain persons not to have weapons, the lieutenant said.

Bokun was also charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, Eldridge said.

Bokun and Dipaolo were remanded to the Bergen County Jail.
