Oh Deer! What to Do with a Big Dead Animal on Your Property
If the deer's on your land, taking care of it is your problem, according to the borough.

There's a price to be paid for the bounty of scenic woodland surrounding Oakland. When a deer should meet a sudden end, and it's on your property, removal of the deer carcass is on you.
"Removal is the responsibility of the property owner," says the borough's website. "...private arrangements must be made."
Since the average weight of a white-tailed deer is around 200 lbs., that's a lot of carcass for a homeowner to move.
If the deer should die on a county- or borough-owed road, body disposal is another matter. In both cases, either Bergen County Animal Control or the borough's own animal control specialist will take care of the remains, according tothe Oakland Municipal Government website.
Anyone who finds a dead deer on public roads or property should call the Oakland Police at 201-337-6171.
