350+ Gallons Of Paint, Gasoline Dumped On NJ Highway: Police

A vehicle carrying 55-gallon drums of acrylic paint overturned while leaving the highway, prompting mass delays Friday night.

MIDDLE TOWNSHIP, NJ - A vehicle carrying 55-gallon drums of acrylic paint overturned on Route 47 in Middle Township while leaving the highway, prompting mass delays Friday night.

The crash, which occurred on Route 47 southbound in the area of mile post 2.4, caused approximately 350 gallons of acrylic paint and 30 gallons of gasoline to spill onto the shoulder of the road, the surrounding ground and marshland, Middle Township police said in a statement.

The roadway was reduced to one lane for approximately two hours, police said. No injuries were reported by authorities.

The Wildwood Fire Department, Cape May County Department of Health CBRNE (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosives) Unit and New Jersey State Police assisted at the scene. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
