Trail of Two Cities Run

The Trail of Two Cities 5-kilometer running race and recreational walk will be held Saturday, Nov. 17, on the Route 52 causeway — starting at the Ocean City Transportation Center at 10th Street and Haven Avenue and ending at Kennedy Park in Somers Point.


The 17th annual event had been scheduled for Nov. 3 but was postponed in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy


Traffic will be closed only on the inbound side of the causeway coming into Ocean City from 7:45 a.m. to 9 a.m.

The running/walking event will be one-way over the new $400 million causeway recently completed between the two cities. Participants will be able to get a good look at the bay and a good look back at Ocean City as they negotiate the new super span on their way to Somers Point.


The race begins 8 a.m. Nov. 17 at the Ocean City Transportation Center.

Runners compete in male and female age groups, and medals will be awarded to the top three finishers in each. There will be special awards to the male and female with the best overall times.


Walkers will participate for the opportunity to take in the sights, snap photos and enjoy a relaxed workout. No pets, skateboards, bikes or roller blades will be allowed because of insurance restrictions.


Registration is $30 the day of the race. No mail-ins will be accepted after Oct. 26. Immediate families of up to four may register for a discounted price of $70. A separate registration form is required for each family participant.


Race-day registration starts 7 a.m. at the Ocean City Transportation Center, 10th and Haven Ave. Packet pick-up and late entry will also be conducted at the Transportation Center. Buses will be available at the JFK Park finish line in Somers Point to transport runners to the start before the race from 7 to 7:30 a.m. Buses will also transport runners back to Ocean City at the conclusion of the race. 


New This Year: Beat the crowd and pick up entry packet early (pre-registrants only), Friday, Nov. 16 at the Ocean City Aquatic and Fitness Center, 1735 Simpson Ave.


An awards ceremony will be held at JFK Park after all participants have completed the course. Shirts are guaranteed to first 300 pre-registrants or while supplies last. Free refreshments will be available at the conclusion of the event.
